Speed Skating
|
Speed Skating is a test of endurance, balance, strength, and coordination. It is an attempt to skate around a pre-defined circuit in the lowest amount of time, or before other skaters reach the finish. Whether it's for fun, fitness, or exercise, speed is an exiting sport, with skating levels ranging from beginner classes to National and International levels. Speed skaters can train and compete in two categories: TrackGenerally held indoors, participants skate on a pre-set track, with the number of laps in an event dependent on the required distance. Skaters can compete in individual events, races against other skaters, team events, and time trials. Distances range from 300 m to 5000 m. RoadSkaters compete on an outdoor surface, with the size, shape, and surface varying depending onĀ locaiton. Like track, skaters can also compete in individual events, races against other skaters, team events, and time trials. Distances rance from 200 m to 42 km. CompetitionsSeveral competitive events run each year, locally and in Perth. The level of competition ranges from Development to National, and even International events. Skaters must join the Bunbury Rollerskating Club and Skate Australia in order to compete at these events. See the office for more information.
