Liability Issues for Groups
The following information describes liability and procedural issues for group bookings to help you in your preparations.
Yes we have 5 million public liability cover
Either myself or staff member Andrew Roberts will run your session and we both have police clearances, first aid certificates, level 1 sports trainers and are accredited roller sports coaches.
The Rink visits schools all around the South West via the mobile trailer to teach the "SPORT SAFE SKATE SMART PROGRAM", and we have visits here at the rink with many local schools and groups, and run public skating sessions and birthday parties all year. This is to say we are used to dealing with groups of all ages and skating levels.
In your booking we can provide at no extra cost protective gear (helmets, wrist guards, knee pads and elbow guards) as well as quality roller skates and inline skates. You choose if you wish to make it compulsory for all group members to wear full protective gear or give them the option, we recommend they wear it. Then we ask that you inform us of your decision, as it is a staff requirement to offer this equipment to every person that skates, which we will continue to do either way. Beginner skaters can wear roller skates as these wheels can be locked to slow down the skate to even a walking pace.
While all care is taken be aware you coming skating this can always mean that people fall down and there is always a risk of injury, this is just a common sense statement. But we have 1st aid facilities and should a problem arise then we are able to be the first step to aid and then pass onto further medical treatment if required. You will need to have on hand contact details for all your group members and some policy on your next plan of action should an injury occur . Also could you please inform us ASAP if you have any special needs students we need to be aware of?
The Rink has emergency exits at the front & rear of the building plus a large roller door at the side of the building, and fully serviced fire hydrants. In case of a fire all students will be moved outside (as there is a parking area from the back to the front of the building), here they would be asked to sit and take off their skates before moving to meet the front of the building for you to do a roll count.
When you first arrive we are only happy to instruct yourself and any volunteer supervisors you bring in a quick lesson in
How to do up skates - correctly
How to gear protective gear - correctly
Yes your volunteers can walk on the rink to help beginners
We can run for your group a short how to class on basic skating skills followed by a fun skate time with some basic games aimed at their skating level with prizes if you wish.
Ask your students to bring their own helmets if they like (otherwise we have some) but nothing fits better than your own. To bring long socks as they are better to use for skating. If you have students not skating no problem we have a grand stand to sit in, the kiosk is open and we will play some great tunes so they are very welcome, please don?t force people into skating if they do not wish, and yes please do send a note home to notify parents that they are coming skating.
So if there is anything else I can help you with please call 9725 6999 as I am happy to help.
