Speed skating can be done for a fun/fitness activity or as a competitive skater.
All classes are $7.00 and this includes the use of recreational hire blades, helmet and wrist guards.
Classes are run by Andrew Roberts - a level 1 accredited coach and sports trainer.
Andrew also runs private lessons in speed skating.
Local competitions are held at The Rink regularly and new skaters are always welcome.
Speed Skating Classes
MONDAYS - 6.30 to 7.30 pm OPEN TO ALL CLASS
THURSDAYS - 4.45 to 5.30 pm JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT CLASS
THURSDAYS - 5.30 to 6.30 pm SENIOR CLASS
Road classes are also run at various times during the year. Speak to Andrew about joining these classes.
Potential speed skaters are encouraged to participate in the Be Active & Skate Smart Classes on Saturday mornings before joining the speed classes.
Track sessions include specific skill activities, including starts, cornering and balance activities, as well as sprints, distance intervals and relays. Each session commences with a warm up and stretching and sessions finish with a cool down skate and stretching.
If you are just starting out in speed skating you can use The Rink's hire recreation inline skates and protective equipment.
ROAD
Private lessons are available during the week and on weekends. Lessons are held at the Go-Kart track, a safe, traffic free circuit on the North Boyanup Road. The 2004 State championships were held at this location, which comprises a short 250 metres circuit as well as a 650 metre circuit.
